I chose to create a two-dimensional art project that I could work on at any time or place. I also wanted to challenge myself to fail by doing something I have never even tried to do before: draw a realistic human face.
I started my project by practicing drawing different parts of a face. I used Mrs. Meyer's Pinterest Board to find several great tutorials, which I used to draw human eyes, a nose, and a mouth. I also found an illustration of how to draw a face.
I started over, paying special attention to the shape of the outline of the head. I also converted the image I was using as a reference to black and white so it was easier to see the different shading.
The most difficult part of the drawing was trying to accurately draw the wrinkles. I had to keep redrawing them darker because they partially rubbed off when I was adding shading. If I was to do this project again, I would try to take the photo in even better lighting so the features would be clearer.
My final drawing turned out much better than I could have ever expected. I was especially pleased with how the shading made the facial features look 3-dimensional. I still need to add glasses to the face as a final touch, and I should erase the areas that have the lightest shading.
